I am predominately a tapestry weaver, but also work with mixed media, stitch and natural dyeing.
The main inspiration for my work is nature and the beach on which I live on a river estuary. The colours and the beach are constantly changing, along with the weather. Each day is a new experience. Driftwood and other objects often find their way into my work and my work finds its way into driftwood. At present I am experimenting with nettle yarns that require no chemicals during their growth and harvesting.
Other influences are books that I read and concerns for the environment.
After taking a class with India Flint, www.indiaflint.com and an online class with Jude Hill, spiritcloth.typepad.com I am experimenting with eco dyeing and stitch. I have also taken a course with Alice Fox http://www.alicefox.co.uk in which I learnt rust dyeing, simple printing and basic book making. I am also indebted to my friend Liz Hewitt for her patience in helping me improve my book and print making techniques.
